Robinson Terrace WWII veterans go to Washington DC to visit the WWII Memorial as part of the Leatherstocking Honor Flight for WWII Veterans.
From Robinson Terrace we met up with the Honor Flight group at the Schoharie Park and Ride where we had an escort of motorcycles, police and marines to the Albany Airport. Along the route, we were greeted by onlookers waving flags and banners in our honor. As we pulled up to the airport there, waiting for us, were other veterans and families. A representative sent from Governor’s Patterson’s office greeted us. Then it was onto the plane and off to Washington DC where we were greeted again by additional fellow veterans and family members. In DC, we were shuttled to the WWII memorial, taken to the Korean Memorial and given a further tour around town. The evening ended with dinner, back to the plane and return to Albany where the Circle of Life ambulance returned us to Robinson Terrace. After the full, exciting and memorable day we were greeted back home by staff.
This trip would not have been possible except for the kindness of the staff, volunteers, Circle of Life ambulance service and, of course, The Leatherstocking Honor Flight project.
